ADRIAN ERDEDI GETS BURGLED ON CHRISTMAS EVE!

December 24th, 2010

It’s after 5am on Christmas Eve as I write this, unable to sleep. At 1:30am my home was broken into by a burglar, who went through my entire apartment, sifting through everything I own – while I was sleeping.

I was woken up by a flashlight in my bedroom, while he was unplugging my iPhone from it’s charger that was on my bedside table about 30cm from my head.

It took a while to figure out what was stolen. My iPhone (my life), some white gold Bulgari rings and an amazing Swarovski crystal watch. Some of my most valuable and sentimental possessions.

As I woke up and chased the burglar out of my apartment, I saw him jump off my balcony (many floors up!).

Now whatever you do this Christmas, make sure you secure your property before going away on holidays, going out for NYE or even leaving the house on Christmas day – these pathetic excuses for human life do exist and will go to almost any length to get what they want.

I have 24 hour security, my apartment is secure and up high – but this doesn’t mean it won’t happen to you – so be aware.

As the event runs through my mind, I think about how I could have been seriously hurt, especially if he had a weapon. At the time, I had no issues confronting him because of my rage, but in a way, it’s lucky it wasn’t confrontational and only materials things were taken.

A message to the burglar: I know you will probably read this (if you can read) because my website and cartoon is on the iPhone cover and screen. You will be caught. You left prints on everything. Don’t try selling the jewelry either – you’ll also be caught as all the stores have the serial numbers of each item. I hope you broke a leg when you jumped. Merry Christmas.

Adrian Erdedi

PS – Thankyou JING tea, Café Del Mar and my Glasshouse Gold Frankincense and Myrrh candle for calming me down as I mend some very sore and bruised hands from banging down a door! How very dramatic!

Save Your Herbs With The Eva Solo Flower Pot At Top 3!

December 17th, 2010

After I finished having my apartment renovated, I got the balcony done. Waterfall, dining table and chairs and pots, urns and potplants. On one end, I had 6 pots of herbs, because they are aromatic, they look cute and I love using them in my cooking!

Unfortunately, after about 6 weeks, every herb died. To follow that… The rest of the plants died. Evergreens! I thought they were never meant to die!! No one told me I had to water plants ALL the time!

Well now I have a good excuse to try the herb garden again. Plus it is also a great gift idea this Christmas. So what is this amazing device that will keep my herbs ALIVE?

Designed by Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbaek for Eva Solo is the Eva Solo Flowerpot, a self-watering pot to keep your plants ALIVE!!!

Ok, so it does require a little bit of work – you need to fill the clear vase under the pot with water once every 7-10 days.

The way it works is with a wick that hangs from the bottom of the pot into the vase below. The vase in the base of the pot holds the water for the wick to bring up to the soil as the plant requires it. Very much like those citronella lanterns. It is the most simple idea, made funky, made well and affordable.

What I also love about these pots is that you don’t just use them for herbs, you can put them anywhere around the house and not have to worry about drips, drops and stains.

A really great idea is to use them on your bedside table, add some contrast and texture to your room.

Giant LEGO Brick Storage Boxes Are Fun, Playful And Practical

November 24th, 2010

I came across these in a magazine and thought they are absolutely fantastic!

As a kid, I was obsessed with LEGO… and now as an adult, I have to relive my youth with this playful storage alternative, under licence  from LEGO themselves.

They can be clicked together to create whatever structure you want, but you’d need many many pieces to build anything. They are great storage for a kids room, office or something a little bit different at home.

Unfortunately they are not yet available in Australia to purchase, but you can order them from the UK (the website says they don’t do it to Australia, but they have exceptions). Check out the site by clicking HERE.

Add A Glamourous Touch To Your Home With James Richardson’s Pasha Armchair

November 9th, 2010

It’s obvious that I love home seating. To me, I think it tells alot about a person, just like shoes. Think of home many times you’ve walked into someone’s home and judged the room by the lounge or chair that is in it.

This glamorous armchair made by Pedrali for James Richardson called the Pasha warps the idea of a classical armchair, created with a perfect balance of innovation and tradition.

It’s an elegant armchair, made of clear injection moulded polycarbonate with a stunning houndstooth cushion. The arm chair is also available with a gloss finish in black or white with solid black or white cushions.

It’s also versatile – you can use it indoors or outdoors and is manufactured to withstand heavy use.

Josh & Louis – L’originale Collection

October 6th, 2010

As I’ve mentioned before, my apartment is a mix of a few different styles, including modern, Rococo and French Provincial.

I’m always on the search for a stand-out piece, and I think I’ve found the perfect piece for my bedroom.

This is the Josh & Louis L’originale Salon Chair is the first of the first of the collection, inspired by the opulence of Rococo and King Louis XV charm. The bright colours bring out the modernity and character of today, but still showing the eccentricity of Kings and Queens that would have once had their dramatic bottoms placed firmly in them.

The detailed frame is hand-carved Mahogany finished with a glass-like lacquer. The upholstery is Italian leather, of course of the finest grade, and it is bordered with nickel coated studding. They are comfortable and supportive, thanks to the webbed and sprung base.

They are a real collectors item, they are beautiful, they are comfortable and they are definitely the perfect piece for my eccentric taste in my eccentric bedroom!

If you are looking for me, I’ll be at Macleay on Manning in Potts Point purchasing it! All I need to do is decide which colour?

Available for around $3,270.

Szilvia Gyorgy’s Hand Thrown Masterpieces

October 1st, 2010

If you read the Abode section of this site, you will know I love perfect lighting, unique lighting and mood lighting.

I was shopping at Planet during the week and was drawn to the amazing display of lamps to the right hand side of the entrance to the divine store.

Szilvia Gyorgy is the designer of these amazing hand thrown porcelain lights. They are hand thrown, cut and altered. There are gaps throughout it which diffuse light beautifully, creating a warm and wholesome ambiance.

The tea lights start from $77, then the lamps range from $300 to $800.

Definately a beautiful artwork which would display perfectly on a tall pedestal in a hallway as a sculpture and a light.

Have a closer look at them at Planet – 114 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills – (02) 9211 5959

Can’t Find An Entertainment Unit For Your Home? Be Creative And Create One!

August 31st, 2010

When I was renovating and refurnishing my apartment, it took a long time to get exactly what I wanted. I could not find what I wanted anywhere in Sydney, Melbourne, or anywhere else really. I was after an entertainment unit that suited the rest of my apartment which is a mix of eccentric styles – Rococo, French Provincial, First Wives Club and early 1900’s glam.

All of this searching and searching and searching for an entertainment unit that would suit a huge beige quilted leather lounge, a deer head and dramatic chandelier stressed me out. Nothing had character, charm or elegance. It wasn’t the cost either, I just simply could not find what I wanted.

So after many months, I resulted to being creative and creating my own entertainment unit out of antique trunks. Think of the beginning of the movie Titanic, when they help is transporting the luggage of the wealthy families from the car to the ship, well that’s what I wanted. And that’s what I got. You’re wondering what I would do with them? Well I bought one enormous trunk, complete with internal drawers, racks and another suitcase inside. The second is a trunk by the same designer. Both of these were originally from the UK, both built in 1902 and both covered in travel stickers from around the World. The other 2 trunks were used in World War II to transport military weapons and ammunition. Pretty cool hey?!

After I got them all professionally cleaned, the large one was measured up and a sheet of glass cut for the LCD TV to sit on.

After shuffling them around, I eventually figured out how the sit nicely in my loungeroom.

They are warm, they look amazing, they are different and always a talking point when people come over. The bonus part is I know a little about the history of them.

Where do you get them? You can get them all over the place, mainly in 2nd hand stores. But because I refuse to go to 2nd hand stores, I found them online and had them delivered to a re-conditioner where all they did was clean them up a little and that’s it!

Total cost? Altogether I spent just over $1,000. Alot less then I was expecting to spend, but a million times happier then anything I would have found in any store.

Tara Dennis/Tonia Todman, eat your heart out!

Cute Little Golden Bank In The Form Of A Pig

August 12th, 2010

Bank in the Form of a Pig he’s called. Pretty obvious why!

I saw this fat little piggy sitting on the shelf and he caught my eye. He’s cute, he’s gold and can fit up to $10,000 of notes!

He will kindly gobble up your spare cash, mainly coins and keep them safe. He is made of resin and marble, he weighs a tonne but he is just so strikingly cute, I can’t help myself! He is moulded from a real piggy, one that died of natural causes – poor piggy.

Designed by Harry Allen for Areaware, he is available to purchase from Bang! at 50 Macleay Street, Potts Point for $390

Lick Of Paint – Berger Premium Launches New Colour Range

July 27th, 2010

Written by Tegan Brideson for AdrianErdedi.com

Lick Of Paint
Berger Premium launches its new colour range, with personalised names to boot, as Tegan Brideson discovers.

Like watching paint dry? Didn’t think so. However it’s about to become a whole lot more fun as Berger Premium is set to launch their new colour range in August.

Flexing new colours extending from the nationwide ‘Name That Colour’ competition that ran in February, contemporary style is reflected by continuously reinventing their colour offer; six newly named paint colours will be included in the launch.

It’s impossible to go past Chocolate Shadow and Outback Gold, Ashen Graze has a nice ring to it and Harry’s Red Wagon is a nice visual link to the paint colour. Frosted Puddle and Helium Blue bring them home.

Julie Johnston, Colour Developer for Berger said “whites and neutrals are always in vogue.” When it comes to selecting paint colour either interior or exterior, a lot of thought goes into it. Not only is it a time consuming task that can’t be changed as often as one might select a new outfit if they change their mind, it can be stressful too. It’s surrounding you everyday.

Johnston has recognised that people are embracing neutrals and whites by “introducing a more comprehensive range,” she says.

“Along with these, we’ve added more charcoals and greys, which continue to grow in popularity and are widely used for both interior and exterior decorating projects.” The shape of things to come.

Thinking Of A Unique Rug For The House?

June 29th, 2010

Ok, so this one is going to stir the Greenie pot, but before I go any further, these animals are from domestic farms or from population control programs because believe it or not, as beautiful as a creature may be, these particular ones are regarded as pests in South Africa in some regions. These animals are not endangered or protected.

Moving past this, the Zebra skin available at Space furniture is one of those things you look at and think, WOW. It’s a glorious creature, which you feel sorry for, but then look at and appreciated it’s beauty.

I need not say more, but if this is something you are into, you can’t go past it. Simply stunning and a simple $4,850.

Falling In Love With Tobias Grau

June 21st, 2010

Falling In Love has never been easier. One look at it and you’re hooked. You are falling and falling and falling in love.

Ok, maybe that’s a little extreme – I didn’t fall in love that much with this light, but I have to say I do like it very much. It’s just so simple. It’s a polished black or silver aluminium sphere, with a black, yellow or red cable and blue or black nest.

Nest? What’s a nest? The next is the little piece of rubber that sits under the sphere to keep it in place and stabilised. No one wants a $649 light rolling off and smashing off the side table do they now?!

It’s a versatile light, you can use it to direct light on a specific item, you can light up a dull wall, a picture or painting, a corner or a shelf. You can use it as mood lighting or as a reading lamp. Point it where you want, because the LED’s light up so perfectly.

It’s easy to use with smooth touch buttons concealed cleanly on the back of the sphere.

Available at ECC in Darlinghurst.

Functionality & Simplicity By Nina Jobs

June 16th, 2010

Functionality and simplicity are two things that are never too far from Nina Jobs. She creates things that are versatile and can be used around the house, at the same time creating designer pieces that stand out.

Fia is the newest product, use it as either a carafe or a vase. As a vase, the crystal sphere sits under the vase. As a carafe, the sphere sits on top. It’s beautiful, it’s clean and practical.

Available with the crystal sphere in four colours, black, clear, pink and amber, I think it would make a very sophisticated addition to your bar. Purchase online HERE for around $105.

The Angle Bed At Planet Furniture

June 10th, 2010

I’m always trying to find unique pieces for the home, whether it’s for the lounge room, kitchen, or bedroom. I’ve found this incredible ‘Angle’ bed at Planet with is superbly made, designed and looks amazing.

The strength and density of spotted gum, with it’s sharp elegantly angled legs make this a rare piece for the bedroom. It’s the legs on an angle that make you do a double-take, wondering how the hell the bed balances this way! Most other timbers wouldn’t allow you to give the legs such a dramatic angle, but being a native Australian hardwood, spotted gum allows you to do this as it is about 3 times denser than most other hardwoods form around the world. Also with the legs angling in as they do, you are less likely to hit your feet on the bed when walking around it, which I have done many times.

It’s a very sleek and modern design that doesn’t take up too much space and has quite an understated impact. This is mainly due to the mirrored angle of the legs and the headboard reducing the impact of the mattress, making the bed appear smaller than it is. The bed I’ve pictured above is a Queen, but store owner Ross said “many people have mistaken it for a double due to this design feature.”

All of Planet’s furniture is made to order and they are always able to tailor each piece to best suit its intended space. Spotted gum comes in a range of tones, from light through to dark, figured or without and cooler or warmer tones, all of which can be specified when ordering. This gives you an amazing choice to suit any scheme and taste.

Queen size Angle bed is $3900 and King size Angle bed is $4200. Double and single also available.

World’s First, Best And Most Innovative Toaster By Magimix

May 27th, 2010

An absolute world first, a glass toaster! It’s genius and I love it.

Magimix, a French brand has made the revolutionary toaster. It is made of glass on the sides so you can monitor the bread as it toasts. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t use it for that, to me it’s more of an eye catching thing that looks great!

Due to hit our Australian stores later this year, it will set you back roughly $300, but a price in Australia is not concrete yet.

Have a look at the video below to get a good idea of it.

Crazy Chandelier By Serien Called Poppy Deck

May 25th, 2010

Intricately decorated, this funky looking, almost crazy Alice in Wonderland styled chandelier is the creation of Ulrich Beckert and Georg Soanca-Pollack called Poppy Deck/Wand by Serien.

The extravagant chandelier has 15 arms with hand-blown glass and flexible bi-metal leaves. The amazing thing is that the leaves open up a couple of minutes after the light is switched on.

It’s kooky and and slightly eccentric, but it’s just beautiful and so well made. Definately a piece to draw attention in most homes. It commands alot of attention! Something else that will get your attention is the price – $3799.

You can see it at ECC Lighting and Furniture on Flinders St, Darlinghurst.

FSP Collections Springbok Cushions – The Wild Addition To Your Home

May 20th, 2010

Earlier this week I wrote about FSP Collection bags for men and women (click HERE to see), made of beautiful and luxurious Springbok from South Africa. But FSP Collection have also got cushions made of the divine Springbok hide, distributed by Djaafar.

The leather used to manufacture this Collection is environmentally friendly. All hides are obtained through South African Government approved animal herd reduction programs.

The springbok skin cushions are a distinctive accessory for the home – exquisitely tactile, resilient and  unique. They would suit most styles of décor – eclectic, modern, African, Tribal, Asian inspired. It could even be stretched out to being a real point of difference in a federation or Rococo style (which a black one would look great in my place!). It’s suitability is quite limitless.

Winter Is Here! So Is Your New (minimink) Throw!

May 17th, 2010

Winter is here! Much quicker then I thought.

So I’ve brought the heater out, I’ve brought the winter throws and blankets and also brought out the Winter foods.

When I took out the throw for my lounge, I thought it was time for a new one. I had looked all over for one, but just couldn’t find a nice black one that was plain and simple. So I looked online to find one and came across a company called (minimink). At first I thought it was just for babies and children, but it wasn’t. It also caters for adults. So I continued looking and really liked what I saw.

I ordered myself the Large Double Sided Fur Rug, which looked great in the photos. It arrived a couple of days later and I was really excited to open it up. I opened it up and unwrapped my new big and soft throw in Ebony. It is the most luxurious throw I have ever felt. Thick, soft and so warm. I LOVE it.

The throw is absolutely amazing and it’s huge! It’s big enough to wrap me up while I gorge on pizza and Underbelly. It measures 200cm x 150cm so it’ll fit the top of a queen size bed. It is so decadent, I found it was hard to find something that has double sided faux fur, as most on the market are thin and only soft on one side. Even if it is double-sided, they are still really thin and not as decadent.

I have it on my lounge, but I also carry it to bed with me to, when I’m watching a movie or on the computer working in bed. I’ve added the photos of it in my apartment.

Because I loved it so much, I have also purchased the cutest Russian Faux Fur hats for children, there are also adults hats too! I also noticed that Jennifer Lopez is a fan of the brand!

I contacted (minimink) afterwards to say thankyou for having such a great product! I really wanted to spread the word about it, so I thought it would be great to get a discounted price for all the readers of my site.

The wonderful guys at (minimink) are giving a 15% DISCOUNT on this rug by quoting the following when you make your purchase online: adrianlovesminimink

The entire range of products are available in Australia, New Zealand and Worldwide.
