A character larger then life, a successful hard-working mother, a loving wife and fabulous fashion sense… Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Judi Hausmann.
The CEO behind the 21 year old Sydney based company, Hausmann Communications is one hard working woman. But don’t think it’s just all work, there is plenty play when it comes to Judi and she isn’t afraid to have fun and a great big laugh.
A very generous and very kind person, Judi is straight down the line and tells it how it is. She constantly makes me laugh and she is such a positive person to be around. I’m excited to present to you a very personal insight into the life of a glamorous, stylish and talented woman…
JUDI ON LIFE AND WORK
Judi, you own Australia’s largest communications company. Tell us a little about the company and how you started it…
Only Henry [Roth] has the nerve to call it Australia’s LARGEST communications company!!
Anyway, in my world its quality, not quantity that counts!!!
I started my own agency full of youthful conviction and determination at the age of 29! if I had known then what I know now, I doubt whether I would have been silly enough to start it!
Almost 21 years later I am so glad I did! I can’t imagine any other job where I could just be paid for being me!
Are there any other projects you are working on now or in the future?
A new health care PR agency we have just set up called Health Haus.
What advice would you give someone if they were thinking of a career in your industry?
Do it, it’s the best career I can imagine!!! But it’s not nearly as glamorous as it may look from the outside!
Is there a charity/cause that is close to you and if so, why?
I am passionate about theatre in general, and the Sydney Theatre Company where I am a Trustee in particular! I have a special interest in making theatre and the arts in general more attractive and accessible to a younger audience!
How do you maintain a life balance between work and home?
I gave up on that years ago! Now everything in my life pretty much falls under the heading of “plerk”, a term my husband coined to describe the confluence of work and play that forms the basis of most of my days!
My Mother/Father always told me…
To talk less – impossible!
When was the last time you cried? If you wish to divulge, why?
Greatest lesson learnt?
Came from the Hamburglar in the old Maccas adverts: “keep your eyes on your fries!”. I focus on what I am doing and don’t worry about what everyone else is up to! That way I give everything my best shot and don’t get distracted by others.
JUDI ON FOOD
Which foods and drinks most excite your taste buds?
It’s more like which ones don’t!!! I love food and drink except champagne and Coca-Cola, both of which I think are horrid! Chocolate is my favourite food group!
How often do you eat out and cook at home?
Too often and not nearly often enough!
My Swedish friend Magnus’s mother’s salmon with dill sauce! I LOVE it!
What is one of your best cooking tips?
Leave some food for the guests! I tend to get carried away with trying things and enjoying my own cooking!!!
Each time we see you at events or in the social pages, you are wearing the most fabulous outfits. Who or what influences you most in Fashion?
What is a fashion trend you hope will never resurface?
Nothing really, I say live and let live!
Black trousers. Lots of ‘em! Missoni jumpers. Easton Pearson tunic tops. And a couple of bolero jackets from my friend the Parisian Haute Couturier, Maurizio Galante (as worn by Judi pictured beside), who makes the most exquisite confections I have ever seen.
Which celebrity wardrobe would you love to raid and why?
I don’t covet anyone elses wardrobe, am very happy with mine!
What is your favourite piece of clothing or accessory?
Who or what influences you most in home décor?
Scott Weston (architect and interior designer).
My bright red 14 seater dining table and lots of colourful Missoni fabrics everywhere.
What is your one design rule you like to stick to around the home?
The more colour the better!
Do you have one feature in your home you love most?
The red Bisazza tiled powder room, its like a little jewel.
What is your kitchen like?
Its a combination of three Poliform showroom kitchens that my friend Khali gave me for a song when he was selling his share in Poliform to Space. They were closing down part of the showroom just as we were moving into our house, so he brought 3 kitchens over on a truck and we did a jigsaw puzzle, ending up with some cabinets in frosted glass, some in cherry wood and some in vanilla lacquered finish! I like the random effect.
JUDI ON LIFESTYLE
Where did you grow up?
Where is your favourite place to relax in Australia?
My friend Mandy’s front verandah on Lang Rd, facing Centennial Park. True story!
What car do you drive, best thing about the car and why you bought it?
I LOVE my car! Its a bright blue Porsche Cayenne S with beige upholstery and a huge moonroof. It goes like the clappers, still looks brand new after 3 years and is seemingly indestructible! I call it the Nana Porsche and I bought it cos I liked it! Actually it took 6 months to arrive because I ordered so many special features! It has everything you can think of – TV, DVD – like a lounge room on wheels!
What is your greatest extravagance?
My lifestyle! I believe I deserve everything!
Where would be your ultimate holiday destination?
The one thing I can’t leave home without is…
My glasses – otherwise I can’t read anything!
If you could be a fly on the wall of any celebrity home, who’s wall would you like to sit on?
Soooo not interested in celebrities or gossip! I am happy for them to have their privacy! And I would really HATE to be a fly!
Three pet hates?
1. Nasty people
2. Stingy people
3. Cruelty to animals
ONE GOOD, ONE BAD
(One good thing and one bad thing about each)
Good – You get lots of fabulous freebies
Bad – No privacy – would hate that!
Good – Easton Pearson
Bad – Supre!
Bad – The obsession with boring made up celebrity crap!
Good – She is mesmerisingly charismatic
Bad – I didn’t get to meet her in person though I spent several hours only meters away from her!
Good – Easy to park in CBD
Bad – Too far from Paris
All good, its my favourite thing, nothing bad!
Dull, nothing good to say at all!
