The Fashion Festival Bali – It’s a Wrap!

September 3rd, 2013

The inaugural Bali Fashion Festival presented by the magnificent The Stones Hotel Legian closed the festivities over the weekend with a party hosted by TATLER Indonesia magazine. The week-long event played host to a long list of Asian Pacific celebrities, socialites and talent from Australia including Michael and Lindy Klim and Casey Burgess.

BARE runway 1

Locals of the island and tourists from around the world indulged in a fashionable week of workshops, pop-up boutiques and world-class runway shows that featured some of the regions most established and emerging designers.

Leah De Gloria from Project Runway Australia opened The Fashion Festival with her beautiful couture collection, followed by Singaporean label, Gnossem. Balinese labels Uluwatu Lace, Bamboo Blonde, Arturro and Mr & Mrs Wardrobe lead the fashion pack and got the bloggers excited with their traditional prints and flowing ensembles, whilst Jakarta based label, FOXXY, sparkled with a touch of quirk.

Story by Tang designer Christine Tang

Australia has been well represented with Shakahachi, Story by Tang, BARE, State of Georgia and Pared eyewear showcasing their eclectic chic style. Shakuhachi introduced its Cyber-Barbarella range of Space-age grunge and floaty, feminine florals to an adoring crowd of hipsters and fashionistas. Models walked out in wistful prints and girlish silhouettes. Bomber jackets coated in a metallic sheen were paired with playful floral camisoles, figure-hugging patent bustiers mimicked the construction of cosmic-armour – offset by floral kimonos, crisp white blazers and delicate printed organza.

Nicholas Meimaris, MD & Creative Director for MGroup who produced The Fashion Festival, was thrilled with the activity, “From the original concept of creating an integrated fashion event that would showcase the Pan Pacific region’s emerging and established designers to Bali’s industry and travel audience – it’s exciting to see the Festival come together. The island has become a melting pot of designers, celebrities and artists that have been able to engage and enjoy each other’s creativity.”

The Fashion Festival has been a stunning showcase of fashion, beauty, style and culture with stunning Indonesian models hair styled by internationally renowned stylist Rob Peetoom.

Meimaris concluded, “We plan to make the event the hero fashion festival for the region and continue to offer our audience and guests an exciting opportunity to experience an international runway production!”

Mr. McQueen In Prahran – Helen Manuell’s Cute New Beauty!

October 21st, 2010

Lately I’ve been spending alot of time in Melbourne.

I love Melbourne… It’s friendly people, great food, bars, shopping, fashion, homewares, pretty much everything except it’s weather!

That aside, I’ve found a new hidden gem at 465 High St, Prahran. Mr McQueen.

The cutest, quaintest and quirkiest, teeny weeny 1960′s housewife style cafe serving the freshest and yummiest of home made brekkies, brunch and lunch style foods with organic ingredients. Have an elegant pot of tea, or a coffee which people line up out the door for! I recommend the Jasmine Pearl tea. Delightful!

There are also fantastic 1960′s style lamingtons, honeycomb rocky road, pumpkin and feta muffins and a mix of delicious treats each day to eat in or take away. There’s a ‘Mr. McQueen Eggs’ menu, and there’s also a normal menu with meals to have throughout the day. My personal favourite is the leg ham, Emmental cheese and caramelised onion toastie. Deeeee-licious!

The effervescent owner Helen Manuell opened the cute cafe about 2 months ago, after changing the shop space from her bridal couture boutique Manuell & Moore. Helen who was a successful contestant on Project Runway has a keen eye for style, grace and elegance. She has a quirky charm about her, and you can see this charm dotted around her beautiful cafe.

Looking over the store at all times, is her gorgeous Lance. Who is Lance? He is the deer head placed on the back wall. He’s a beautiful majestic creature which brings a little added charisma to the quirky theme.

Located on the trendy end of High Street in Prahran, Helen welcomes you with open arms after opening the big red door to the cutest little café in Melbourne. Be sure to check it out!

Zaicek – Genius in Design & Quality

March 15th, 2010

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Brent Zaicek, the brains behind the menswear label, Zaicek.

Brent is a larrikin. Always making jokes, having fun and being positive – this shows in his great work.

I just bought the Bosunbird waistcoat pictured above from Zaicek. When I picked it up, I was drawn to the intricate detail in the stitching, the stunning design on the back of the waistcoat and when I tried it on, it was the fit. It fit just perfectly with the adjustable strap at the back – it fits like a glove.

I can’t wait to see more of Brent’s creations, especially with the new season coming soon! An infectious designer, with an untainted flair for knowing what men can wear, pushing the boundaries of design and individualism.

Check out the collection and stockists at www.zaicek.com.au
