ADRIAN CAN’T COOK with Simone Erdedi – Episode 4

December 4th, 2013

My sister Simone is an inspirational and fun-loving girl.
I adore everything about her and I’m so thrilled that she is one of the great guests on ADRIAN CAN’T COOK.

Simone is a 26 year old girl with Down Syndrome. She jokes, laughs, cries and gets sad – just like any of us. She has shows she loves, singers she adores and loves celebrities.

She is just a down-to-earth person with a huge heart of gold.

Though very quiet and shy, Simone still shows off her talents in the kitchen and teaches me a yummy sweet recipe she learnt at her Disabilities Centre.

I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did filming it. I hope she inspires you as much as she does me.

Basil Soda – Ready To Wear – Spring/Summer 2014

September 30th, 2013

The BASIL SODA woman is exploring new grounds this season, in search of a lighter attitude and a sense of freshness.

Explosions of color, sleek tailoring and exuberant shapes compliment a youthful state of mind for an effortless look.  Modern geometric cuts are inspired by different techniques of folding and pleating. Splashes of stone and metal embroideries add streaks of lively colors. The various range of unexpected fabrics create an interesting palette to play with such as; perforated cottons, abstract floral prints, unconventional laces, along with silk satins and crepe georgettes adding a touch of romanticism embellishment that compliments metal rose accessories hugging the body.

BASIL SODA Spring/Summer 2014 provides every aspect of a modern day woman’s life, from day-wear to signature evening-wear.

The 32nd Australian Wool Fashion Awards Wrap Video – Armidale

April 1st, 2013

The 32nd Australian Wool Fashion Awards – Armidale

March 26th, 2013

20130326-160045.jpg

I had the absolute honor of being selected as a fashion judge for 32nd Australian Wool Fashion Awards in Armidale, NSW.

A role which needed to be taken seriously, I was one of five talented professionals, Bonnie Lythgoe (So You Think You Can Dance), Peter Everett (TV Presenter), Faye De Lanty (Fashion Writer) and Jo Nathan (Designer at Woolli Woolli) who had to critique 90 garments from many categories submitted by designers all over Australia and New Zealand.

20130326-160059.jpg

With many categories including evening wear, race wear, bridal, recycled wool and the very fun Alice In Wonderland theme, things were very competitive and the designers had to make sure there was a minimum of 60% Merino wool used in their designs.

Choosing the ‘best of’ in each category was quite a task, it’s so hard to not make every designer a winner when the build and design quality was so great.

20130326-160111.jpg

We all had so much fun and worked so collaboratively to make sure the best of each category was selected because this is the future of our young (and some old!) designers who deserve every opportunity to win scholarships or grants at the countries leading fashion colleges.

The Australia Wool Fashion Awards strives to find and award the best designers. It also creates an incredible platform for these designers to enter and submit their work.

20130326-160126.jpg

On the big night of nights, the finalists we had selected were sent down the runway in the gardens of the Historic Saumarez Homestead in Armidale where a colourful array of outfits were paraded. The very professional, funny and gorgeous Deborah Hutton hosted the night, keeping everyone entertained.

Laura Davis from All Saints Anglican School Merrimac on Queensland’s Gold Coast took out first prize in the School section before taking out the three-year, half-fee degree Scholarship to study at North Sydney’s Raffles College of Design.

20130326-160141.jpg

Laurel Judd from Napier, New Zealand won both the Racewear and Knitwear sections as well as the Supreme Award, winning a gold and diamond pendant and earrings worth $10,000 donated by Margot Edwina Rees Antiques, Tenterfield.

Workwear winner was QUT student Shea Cameron of Biggera Waters, Queensland while Larissa Murdock from Werribee in Victoria took out the recycled wool category with an outfit made from knitted jumpers sourced from Op Shops. Long time entrant Judy Bond from Buronga, NSW crocheted her way to two second prizes and a first in wearable art.

20130326-160221.jpg

Jane Frazer from Deniliquin won the evening wear category with a stunning cream and gunmetal pleated gown made from Wool Charné fabric. Libby Spring and Celia Fraser from Fullarton South Australia won the bridal wear with a gown trimmed with Nanna’s lace curtains.

Whitehouse Institute of Design Drawing Scholarships went to Jessica McClatchy from PLC Pymble, NSW and Bianca Scott and Sarah Scott from All Saints Anglican School, Queensland.

Academy of Design Scholarships went to Armidale students Nichola Eliott from New England Girls’ School, Miriam Lott and Edith Rose from Armidale High School.

Socially including the ALL NEW MINI PACEMAN

March 18th, 2013

20130320-144318.jpg

MINI Garage Sydney celebrated the arrival of the MINI Paceman in Sydney over the weekend to a crowd of socials, MINI enthusiasts and media at Double Bay’s Mrs Sippy.

The Paceman, a handsome addition to the MINI family, is the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium small and compact vehicle segment.

The sun was shining and the drinks were flowing as everyone was greeted with champagne, Pimms and Peroni on arrival. A variety of canapés such as roasted pumpkin tart with goat’s cheese, lemon pepper prawns and a selection of gourmet wood fired pizzas went down a treat. And for the sweet tooth, everyone enjoyed the Mrs Sippy mini mud pies.

Welcomed by the striking Paceman model parked out the front of the venue – all were left impressed with its innovative combination of sporty, extrovert design, hallmark MINI driving fun and its cutting edge interior.

Unique, yet typically MINI, the Paceman opens up a whole new market for the brand’s unique style. Two doors, large tailgate and lounge concept, with two individual seats in the back; celebrity sexologist Dr. Nikki Goldstein cheekily stated, “The spacious Paceman shows that size does count”.

NaraCamicie Flagship Store Opens In Paddington – Meet The Owners

December 5th, 2012

It’s finally here in Australia – and here to stay and spoil us rotten with quality, Italian style and design.

Naturally I’m talking about NaraCamicie, the Italian label which has taken most countries of the world by storm!

Right here in Paddington, Sydney, store owners Angela and Alex opened Australia’s flagship store. It’s an edgy and funky store with everything so easily to see and feel – it’s quite a sensory experience.

I caught up with Alex and Angela at the store to talk all things NaraCamicie and fashion.

How NaraCamicie start and why did you decide to launch the brand in Australia?

We came across the brand while honeymooning in Italy and specifically Venice in 2006. We were instantly captivated by the quality, styles and price range. We ended up purchasing many shirts and after arriving back to Australia we were continuously receiving positive feedback every time we wore a Nara shirt. It was obvious to us that there was a gap in the Australian market for European style shirts. After many visits to Italy we decided that it was time to take the big step to launch the brand to the Australian market in 2012. We carefully studied what other brands were offering and again it was very clear that Australians were in need of something different. This was what prompted us to launch.

 Where is NaraCamicie stocked overseas?

There are over 600 stores worldwide. All over Europe, Asia, North and South America as well as Africa. There are more stores opening monthly in every major city around the world.

Do you think it will have the same success here in Australia?

Our sydney flagship store has been open for 2.5 months now and the response has been fantastic. NaraCamicie has been a success all around the world and we truly believe Australia will be as well. Many Australians that have travelled abroad have come in the store or contacted us via email and phone, expressing their excitement that finally their favourite shirt brand has reached the Australian shores. It is only a matter of time that NaraCamicie becomes the authoritarian in the shirt industry in Australia.

There has been a positive reaction to the brand with stylists and celebrities visiting the store. Why do you think the brand is attracting these influential people? What is the ultimate goal for the brand?

They are attracted because simply Naracamicie offers something unique and the styles and cuts are very European. There are over 200 styles of shirts offered per season from casual, business, evening and formal. Nara has been for many years present in all major publications around the world, numerous fashion shows and has been established in the fashion world for 28 years.

Are you planning on opening more stores in Australia? When and where could we expect to see them?

We are planning on opening in every major city in Australia in the next 5 years. New Zealand is also of interest.

How do you think the fashion industry differs to that of Europe?

Australian fashions tends to be more conservative and simple. There is however a desire for different styles that are more colourful and edgy. Nara offers exactly that.

The store fit-out in Paddington is very modern and edgy. Do you find that this is reminiscent of the exceptional European style and design?

The Nara store concept is the forefront of designer shop fitting. Designed by a leading Italian architect, it is simple and elegant, modern and edgy and gives emphasis to the beautiful shirts displayed. The comments we have received from customers and other retailers is that they have never seen anything like it!

Reasonably priced fashion, excellent quality and Italian made – do you think these are the three things that shoppers in Sydney look for? What else do Sydney shoppers look for do you think?

We believe that Sydney shoppers are continuously searching for something that is priced correctly, is of outstanding proven quality and at the same time unique. We have had customers come back to tell us that the feedback they received when wearing one of our shirts was amazing. Whoever wears a Nara shirt is noticed simply because the patterns and fabrics of a Nara shirt is fresh to the Australian market.

What styles and colours will we expect to see in the new season?

Our current spring/summer collection focuses on bright colors and flora prints without stemming away from the traditional whites.

For our upcoming autumn/winter collection darker hues and simple black and whites are back in. Grandpa collars for men and satin prints and frill shirts for women will be evident.

Over 150 styles for both women and men will be available.

What is your personal style, when you are socialising or at events and not in the store?

Smart casual, chic and edgy. We do not only sell Nara shirts, we also love wearing them!

What is a MUST HAVE item for guys and girls this season from NaraCamicie?

Guys: definitely short sleeve grandpa collar shirt

Girls: 3/4 floral print shirt

Underbelly Star Natasha Leigh Stars In New UK TV Show!

November 29th, 2012

Australian beauty Natasha Leigh is about to star in one of the UK’s most popular TV shows as a new Doctor. Natasha has been in the UK just a few months, yet she is already turning heads and making her mark.  When attending the UK’s Inside Soap Awards Natasha was named ‘best dressed’ by both Boohoo and Reveal Magazine!  She also caught up with fellow actors at the awards, Chris Milligan & Tom Oliver, she also shared the screen with Chris Milligan in Overture.

In Holby City Natasha plays a feisty Doctor Lilah Birdwood, who left Australia to escape the disapproving eyes of her former colleagues in Australia. When Lilah’s affair with a married consultant was exposed, they turned their backs on her and threatened to end her career.  Dr Birdwood is at the hospital as a CTI Doctor and is desperate to make the cut as a surgeon. She is determined not to let anyone get in her way; but how far will she go?

This is the first UK Television role for actress Natasha Leigh who plays the confident young Doctor, having had success in prime time Australian shows such as the hugely popular ‘Neighbours’, ‘Underbelly: Golden Mile’, ‘Bogan Pride’, ‘City Homicide’ and ‘Cops’ (as Natasha Cunningham). On Lilah, Natasha says “she is at Holby City Hospital to prove herself. She’s a great character to play.”

1. What an incredible role to land! Congratulations on the lead role in Holby City! How did this role come about?

Thank you!  It was so surreal how it all happened. I was in LA & I taped my audition in my friends kitchen. Came back to Australia & put down a couple more scenes with my parents acting opposite me! Then did an interview with the producers on Skype! An hour later I got the role and two weeks later I was here in the UK!

2. When you found out you got the role, what was your first reaction and how did you celebrate?

I started crying when i heard! (this industry is a rollercoaster & I feel very blessed when I get a chance to work)  In terms of celebrating – my girlfriends and I shared a nice bottle of Billecart-Salmon Rose Champagne! My absolute favourite!!

3. You’ve had some pretty great roles on Australian TV. Have you found many differences in working with Australian and UK based production companies?

The more I travel, the more I realise that although Australia is amazing; it is just an island on the ‘other side of the world’. We are very disconnected to what is happening everywhere else, so actors Must travel to really have a shot of going big! I also believe most Australians are down to earth, fun, friendly people; so we are easy to work with.

4. You have a solid fan base in Australia, and in the UK through Australian shows. What do you think makes yourself and so many actors like you so popular in countries like the UK and USA?

I think every actor has to have some qualities similar to your character. Johnny Depp has a great quote  – “with any part you play, there is a certain amount of yourself in it. There has to be, otherwise it’s just not acting. It’s lying” . I am like Lilah as in I am very passionate & sometimes intense, but for the most part, we are both just fun loving Aussie women.

5. You’ve played a few different types of roles, what has been your favourite and what types of roles do you get really passionate about?

I have played some very interesting roles! I don’t really have a favourite because they are all so different, but they are always Intense, Raw, Vulnerable and Honest. I love roles you can get your teeth into & test yourself as an artist.

6. What was it like working with Lou Carpenter on Neighbours? Come on… Tell us the truth!

He is lovely really!  I actually live down the road from him, so we are constantly bumping into each other at the corner store!

7. Which foods and drinks most excite your taste buds?

Food wise, anything with basil & salt, I Love.  I make my own pesto & use it with pasta dishes, pizza, tapas with cheese..   drinks, I love champagne & a nice subtle pinot noir.

8. What is your favourite thing to cook – if you cook?

I do cook, a lot! I really enjoy being in the kitchen, my whole family does. The most enjoyable time is Christmas when four generations of women make our secret recipe version of the Traditional Christmas Pudding

9. What is your favourite piece of clothing or accessory?

Besides my Jimmy Choos, which are amazing to wear.. I’d say a few good scarves are essential to any wardrobe. They add texture & colour to any outfit, worn around your neck, belted, caped… & can be used to protect against the sun & wind!  Perfect accessory!

10. Which celebrity wardrobe would you love to have and why?

Marion Cotilard always seems to nail her outfits! Simple, chic, sexy with edge…there is something slightly off centre which is absolutely my style !!

11. Is there a feature in your home you love most?

I love to have water around me (I’m a Pisces/Gemini), so being in harmony with my environment is very important to me. I have a glass fountain near the back window which I love to sit by and read. Perfect place to zone out.

12. Where did you grow up and what did you love about growing up there?

I grew up on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It was lovely to be in between the bush & ocean. It definitely keeps you in touch with nature, though at times I used to crave the city life.

13. Favourite place to relax in Australia or the world?

In Australia is would be the mountains near Byron Bay, it’s such a vortex there, you go to another world with its lusciousness.  I’m yet to visit New York, which I think will one day be my home.

14. What is your great extravagance?

My Career!  I have sacrificed a lot & invested everything into my career. It’s just what you do when you find something you love & are passionate about, but it can at times be very demanding.

15. This one thing you can’t leave home without is…

Sunglasses! I always wear them. Because my eye colour are so light & almost yellow… they are very sensitive to light. They also complete any outfit & adds a bit of flair!

Restaurant Review: Resto Bar

October 28th, 2012

I’m so pleased that Sydney’s newest Argentine restaurant Resto Bar has changed the way I eat Spanish food in Sydney. Being Spanish myself, and having lived in Spain, I find it very hard to find good, authentic Spanish food in this city – till now.

With the new addition of effervescent Spanish-Australian chef Gloria Lombardo, the food could not be more authentic, mainly because of the fact that Gloria is from Cataluña, a provence of Spain.

It takes a real Spaniard to understand Spanish food and Gloria has been the force behind Sydney’s best tapas restaurants for more than 20 years. She has developed a menu that is a unique combination of classic Spanish tapas with modern Argentine dining.  Using only the freshest seasonal produce, the authentic dining experience that made Café Tapas in Bourke St, En Casa and Casa Asturiana so popular is now found at Resto Bar.

So enough about Gloria as sweet as she is, and lets move on to the food.

Wow… Was I impressed! The food and the service combined with the company I had for the night, I couldn’t have had a better experience. The very hospitable Sebastian from Sitges, a town outside of Barcelona welcomed and seated us, quickly attending to our needs.

After opening a bottle of wine and getting settled with my great and gorgeous friends Kate, Nikki, Nataša and Carmelena, we looked over the menu and ordered everything that Sebastian and Gloria recommended, as well as the typical Spanish dishes.

For me, the stand out dish was definately the wild mushrooms and prawns. Succulent and fresh, this dish is my recommendation. But it was the typically Spanish dishes that caught my attention, the paella, the tortilla (Spanish omelette), gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns) and patatas bravas (fried potato cubes). Eating these dishes all of my life has made me a critic, and I can tell you I’ve had some pretty shocking ones, but my goodness – these were all absolutely outstanding!

The grilled calamari and the chorizo – amazing! The milanesa a berenjenas (crumbed and fried eggplants) – amazing! This is something my mother and grand mother have always made, so great to see it on a menu and taste it.

Unable to eat much more, I did try the typically Argentine BBQ meat. I don’t normally eat large amounts of meat, but this was irresistible. It’s a mixed charcoal grill of meats; chicken, short ribs, chorizo, black pudding & wweet-bread plus Matambre de Cerdo (grilled pork flank steak) + salad & bread.

I really could go on about everything on the menu because we pretty much ordered everything on it! The food is filling and you feel absolutely content – these are great portions. The service was great and with the wide open kitchen, it’s great to see Gloria cooking away with her love for authentic food.

I can’t tell you how impressed I am with my experience here – as well as my great friends.

Resto Bar really impressed us, tucked away in a quieter part of town and having a really edgy urban style inside, I will be back here in a heartbeat.

Pros: Great, authentic food, authentic service, authentic attitudes with authentic views on how Spanish/Argentine for should be presented. BYO alcohol. Charming and relaxed space, easy parking.

Cons: No real cons to be honest. I was so thrilled with my experience that even if something wasn’t right, I wouldn’t have noticed it.

Pricing: Tapas meals from $5 to $26. A large range of paella, meat grills and other menu selections. Website is detailed with pricing and everything is translated to English.

Final say: A clean, friendly and hospitable group of people bringing a pleasurable experience to life with great food. I love this place and it’s great for groups. I’ll be back again and again – and the other reviews on UrbanSpoon completely back me up on this review – a seriously impressive place!

Palm Beach Collection – The New Luxury Scented Experience

October 4th, 2012

Any reader of my blog, or anyone they knows me personally will know there is one luxury that I don’t mind spending money on… Candles.

If I could, I would have scented candles burning around me 24/7. I love them. They make me feel different and special things, they transport me and they smell absolutely divine!

But they only smell divine if you find the right ones… And as I’m always searching high and low for great candles, I have once again hit the big time on these ones. Palm Beach Collection.

Palm Beach Collection is an exquisite new eco-friendly Australian lifestyle product range for true lovers of contemporary style, with a feeling of indulgence.

The all-natural Palm Beach Collection range is luxurious yet affordable and consists of beautiful hand-poured scented candles and reed diffusers in an extensive array of delicious scents including Vintage Gardenia (my fave), Coconut & Lime, Pear & Cinnamon, Honey & Peach Blossom and Mint Leaf & Avocado.

I did my research and discovered what Palm Beach Collection was all about and who was behind it.  Brother and sister duo, Kirsten Walkerand Mike Grey developed this incredible collection of eco-friendly soy wax and essential oil candles with the landscapes of Sydney in mind.

Kirsten and Mike’s childhood was spent in the beachside surrounds of Avalon, Clareville and Palm Beach in Sydney, where their parents still reside. Palm Beach Collection is very proudly a family owned and run Australian business. The team are passionate about ensuring their product remains Australian made close to the shores of their beloved home in Sydney.

The clever pair have travelled the globe extensively over a number of years to research and develop what they believe to be the finest fragrance creations from leading international experts in the art of perfume. From humble beginnings as a start-up business less than three years ago, Palm Beach Collection is now recognised amongst the best Australian made and owned candle collections, with more than 400 stockists Australia wide.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Mike Grey about Palm Beach Collection.

1. There are many candle collections out there, what makes your product different?

This is a very good question. I believe the story behind Palm Beach Collection and how we came about as a brand has a lot to do with creating our originality. Palm Beach Collection is not just a substandard product with a label slapped on its jar or bottle, we have created this collection with love- the love of family. The entire Palm Beach Collection team are family and we have created this together-family made and owned, it is truly a heart-warming story and I feel like this translates in our brand and product. We are an eco-friendly collection and use renewable supplies such as soy which is a big point of difference.

2. There is a luxurious beach Hamptons style feeling around the collection, have you purposely gone for this style? Is it one you live in your own life?

We love everything about the area we live in and we wanted to create a Palm Beach experience in every product we have. Our packaging and fragrances reflect our lifestyle and surroundings, being both beach and sophistication. I think this has caught the eye of Hampton enthusiasts but personally you can’t beat Palm Beach Sydney!

3. Scents trigger memories, especially candles for me. Do any of your candles bring back special memories?

Absolutely! I love how quickly I can be transported back to a time in the past just by scent. White Rose & Jasmine reminds me of our family garden where I grew up. The Jasmine is such a strong trigger that I literally visualise a certain day, just amazing. Mint Leaf & Avocado brings back Christmas for me as a small boy. I can remember the holidays and the excitement of the beach bringing back so many memories. Our scents have been created with this in mind, everyone has a history making each favourite so personal.

4. What is your inspiration behind each of the candle and diffuser concoctions?

We have been inspired by our surroundings here on the Australian Northern Beaches. Many native flower oils and beautiful citrus extracts accompanied by wooden base notes have helped create this. Mood plays a big part in the creation of a fragrance, like mentioned above scent does entice feelings through the senses. This is why I love this range, I can use a fragrance to create mood or to alter it. We have also travelled extensively and taken ideas from European inspiration, some of the fragrances being developed in Europe are just superb. We like to look for points of difference to inspire us as well.

5. It’s hard to ask a mother or father which one of their kids is their favourite – but let’s be honest, they all do! Which is your favourite candle and diffuser?

Ha ha I love it, and may I say quite the fitting question as we are brother and sister! We all have our favourites and mine is White Rose & Jasmine in both the candle and the diffuser, I generally am not a floral lover but this fragrance I just can’t get enough of!

6. What is the most common piece of feedback you get about your collection?

Love the name, love the scents and love the packaging. Also what ideas have you got for the next candle fragrance?

7. Do you know of any celebrities/high profile people that use your products? If so who and is there a story behind that?

Nicole and Lionel Richie loved the candles while they were in Australia and took some back to the US with them, Australian Olympian Leisel Jones is a huge fan and Lara Bingle and her mum also love the brand!

8. What is next for Palm Beach Collection?

We are still growing as a business and we have started to export to Europe and the UK. Along with the launch of our E boutique just last month we have a some exciting things in the pipeline.

It is important to remain dynamic in this market so without giving to much away you can expect to see some amazing newness happen to the range in the next few months.

Expanding out into new countries and representing quality Australian made products in various markets is next. We want to be the best ambassadors for Australian made home fragrance products both at home and off shore.

The Palm Beach Collection prices range from $37.95 for the Candle Collection and Diffuser Collection through $109.95 for theDeluxe Candle range. With a growing selection of more than 20 divine fragrances such as Coconut & Lime, Tahitian Mango, French Vanilla and Sweet Basil & Citrus, Palm Beach Collection continues its rapid expansion with the launch of their first e-commerce store as well as more product lines currently under development and due for release soon.

Do yourself a favour and purchase one of these candles. I love them and am stocking up on them for summer!

TIP: Grab some of the smaller ones to take with you on holidays, I’ll be taking a few to Byron Bay this year. What this does is sets a scent and a memory – you’ll be able to take yourself back on holidays while you’re burning your candle at home or the office.

ECOYA Flagship Store Launch in Woollahra

August 1st, 2012

I’ve been to many events in Sydney, around Australia and in Europe. Most of these events are perfectly orchestrated, catered and entertained. But I haven’t been to an event for a very long time that was a total invasion of my senses.

Hearing. Seeing. Smelling. Tasting. Touching.

It was the very exclusive opening of Australian candle and bodycare company ECOYA’s Flagship Store on Thursday evening that had me worked up and noticing that every single little detail was covered.

ECOYA candles lined Queen Street, Woollahra and flowers by Grandiflora wrapped lamp posts and street signs and hung from the store’s awning creating an exquisite entrance into the flagship store.

Saskia Havekes of Grandiflora created a decadent arrival to the store, with flowers and lighting hanging from the perimeter of the stores awning – it was simply magical. The colours and textures she used complimented the environment perfectly.

As I arrived, I was cheerfully greeted and given an ECOYA fragrance themed buttonhole flower arrangement before walking into another world that was was music to my ears – literally. Hanna Oblikov and Eliza Morrison of classical music group ASTON entertained us with contemporary songs including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sneaky Sound System and Coldplay played on the Cello and Violin.

The ECOYA store/interior designer Megan Morton created a very organic and decadent space, with gorgeous 180 test tube chandeliers filled with seasonal flowers. The long wall of mirrors was also a stand out, which had Neale Whitaker of BELLE and many others admiring it. Treated with battery acid, it made a very interesting, yet slightly morbid and distressing look to the space – which all tied in just perfectly.

There were heaps of familiar faces, including Kirstie Clements (below), Donna Hay (above), Adam Ashley Cooper and gorgeous partner Pip Edwards (below), the effervescent Dr Nikki Goldstein, the distinct BELLE Editor Neale Whitaker (above) and lovely Stylist David Novak Piper (above).

We sipped on flutes of Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage 2002 Champagne, MOA and Steinlager Pure Beer and Santa Vittoria sparkling, but it was the catering that was exceptional. ‘Katering’ put together the excellent combination of canapes, including Salt and pepper barramundi with fresh lime, steamed Peking duck crepes with shallots and hoisin sauce, steamed chicken dumplings with shallot and ginger relish, peppered beef on a potato roesti with truffled aioli and rocket, smashed broad beans, pecorino and mint on charred bruschetta (below) and mini banoffee pies as something sweet to follow. The food was to die for and had every one in the room taking more then what event etiquette would allow.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the wife of ECOYA founder, Lisa Schweighoffer who was easily recognised in her bright yellow Sass & Bide pants! Just like the products ECOYA make, Lisa is a genuine and down to earth person and really in touch with the way people live and lead their lifestyles.

I can’t rave on about this event enough. Everything was perfect and everyone invited was approachable and great to chat to.

Well done to the team at ECOYA.

74 Queen Street, Woollahra.

An Intimate Night With Dame Edna for Jenny Craig

April 28th, 2012

I had the pleasure of spending a very intimate night with entertainment royalty – Dame Edna.

It was in the basement at the Civic Hotel in Sydney where I got to see the very endearing Dame Edna on stage speaking about Jenny Craig and how she, along with her Manager, Barry Humphries will strive to achieve their weight loss goal of 15kgs each.

In hysterics for much of the night, I can’t think of a time I have felt more privileged to have been graced by one of Australia’s greatest living treasures in this very private and rare opportunity. A good 45 minute session with Dame Edna was exactly what everyone in the room needed. Allowing questions from Trevor Ashley, Peter Everett, Mike Goldman and Glen-Marie Frost, Dame Edna answered with quick witted and supremely detailed answers, all with the poise and elegance of a legend.

It wasn’t just Dame Edna who kept the photographers on their toes, the moment the scary Spice Girl Mel B and husband Stephen Belafonte arrived, the sound of flashes and murmurs “Mel, Mel, look here, Mel”, “Oh my God, Mel B is here”, “Wow, it’s Mel B, she looks incredible” filled the room. And it was true. She looked incredible. With a body to salivate over, Mel B lost 15 kgs in 20 weeks after being ambassador for Jenny Craig.

I’ve met many international and local celebrities and I must say, I was a little star struck seeing Mel, but then I actually got to meet her and spend much of the evening with her and her hilariously extroverted husband. Mel B was so much fun, coming out with the funniest one liners, but also being an absolute sweetheart.

Other guests included my long time friend Peter Everett, Channel 10′s Breakfast presenters Andrew Rochford and Kathryn Robinson, Dr Nikki Goldstein, Trevor Ashley, Mike Goldman, Chucky Klapow and the gorgeous Glen-Marie Frost. Below are some photos of the silliness Dr Nikki and Peter Everett got up to with the crazy couple.

What an amazing night – but if you want the X-Rated uncensored version of the night… Contact me privately! :-)

Passionate About Design in Waterloo

April 18th, 2012

I recently produced an Easter photo shoot which required some props. I sent a call out to some close friends and a designer friend of mine suggested I visit a new furniture and design store called PAD in Waterloo.

Off to Waterloo I went to see what this store was all about. I parked the car across the road and looked into the window displays. I immediately knew this place was ME. I couldn’t get inside fast enough to discover the world of rich and rare opulence.

PAD = Passionate About Design. That they most certainly are.

This place is a wonderland of gorgeous pieces, new and refurbished. Intricate patterns, fabrics, designs and collections which all team together beautifully to create the most special of spaces in your home. The photos really speak for themselves.

I’m totally in love with this place. Even just a walk around the store with no intention to purchase puts you into a special space in your mind and emotionally. It is so cleverly laid out, the natural light pouring in from the old warehouse roof, the burning candle scent wafting around the space and the attention to every detail is perfect for waking the senses.

The team at PAD are passionate about providing a complete service for their customers. They are more than happy to discuss the room you are decorating, taking into consideration the colour scheme, soft furnishings and existing furniture pieces to pull your look together. Bring some photos and take advantage of their Interior Decorators’ free advisory service.

If you are looking for a particular piece, or an elusive accessory, they are able to source both vintage and new pieces from their vast network of suppliers. From lamps and armchairs, to mirrors and tables, and everything in between – they will have you covered.

I suggest you get to the store as soon as possible, so you can see, feel and smell the experience for yourself.

The book.

Ian Thorpe – Cook For Your Life

Ian Thorpe is an incredible Australian. He has achieved more then most people on the planet, but still maintains to be a real person underneath that powerful physique. A new addition to his impressive portfolio is the cook book, Cook For Your Life.

I’ve bought this book for my mother (because she doesn’t have an iPhone!) and flicking through the book I have found a heap of recipes I’ve book marked for both mum and me to make. This book is incredible and the photography and food styling is so beautiful and real.

Ian has put together a selection of recipes which require the best and freshest ingredients, which ultimately means you and your family benefit. The meals are nutritionally structured, combining a range of vegetable, proteins and legumes. Reading through each recipe, you will notice there is a similar structure, this is the key to his own health.

As soon as I give the book to my mum on Christmas day (and then steal it back for me to finish reading!), I will put up some posts of the recipes and photos. I can’t wait to cook the way Ian Thorpe cooks in his own kitchen, the way that athletes eat and the way I should eat.

As I write this post, I have had 2 chocolate muffins. Oh dear!

The book is available online and at all good book stores for $39.95.

Noble Wine Of The Week – Xabregas Wines 2009 Mount Barker Shiraz

November 21st, 2011

Reviewed by Stewart Noble from WineWithoutBS.com.au for AdrianErdedi.com

Keen to show that Mount Barker is capable of producing very high quality cool climate shiraz that would rival the likes of the highly prized and scored examples coming out of areas like Canberra Districts, I was contacted by the Xabregas (pronounced ZAR-BREE-GAS) Vigneron, Paul Hogan, to check  out their new release. This is the second vintage of the Xabregas Mount Barker Shiraz I have tried, yet this time around Xabregas have a new winemaker, Martin Cooper, who said he had a new found appreciation of wine bloggers after comments I made on the winery’s 2007 vintage back in 2010.

The 2009 release is a very deep, rich purple colour that is almost the ‘classic’ colour for young, cool climate shiraz. The aroma was one I had trouble pinning down. The label suggests half the kitchen sink will be in there somewhere but, with a bit of time and more persistence on the nose than I suggest many will bother with, I can report that I picked up on the sweet plum fruit and at times could smell faint white pepper.

It is a lovely, balanced wine to drink with elements of fruit, spice, pepper and oak on the palate with no single element over powering the others. It is a totally different wine in all the ways I’d hoped over the 2007 and goes to show that you can never judge a winery on just one wine.

Price - $23 from www.xabregas.com.au

Final SipA great wine and from what I hear, just the beginning, as I believe the Xabregas line up will soon include 4 Shiraz wines at different price points. I certainly look forward to trying them all but i’m more than happy with this drop for its price!

Noble Wine Of The Week – Kelly Fleming Wines 2009 Sauvignon Blanc

July 25th, 2011

Reviewed by Stewart Noble from WineWithoutBS.com.au for AdrianErdedi.com

While Kelly Fleming wines have been available since 2005, the two current releases, the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc and 2007 Cabernet are the first ‘Estate’ grown and made wines. The new estate winery is located in Oakville and opened in June 2010. It was such a treat to be given the full tour of this immaculate facility by Kelly Fleming and her daughter, Colleen.

The wine tunnel, or cave, which took over two years of blasting into the hillside of her property, is simply amazing and at the end of one tunnel there is a very well thought out museum (library) section where 16 cases of each vintage can be perfectly stored for ageing and enjoyment in the future. Kelly is clearly very proud of her brand new winery and she has every reason to be as it incredibly tasteful, well planned and very inviting.

For those not familiar with the difference between an estate wine and a non-estate wine, basically estate wine is made with grapes from vines owned, or at least fully controlled by, the winery and is made on site, or at the ‘Estate’. For those interested in some of the finer points on the definition of estate wines I have included a great site below which explains it in more detail.

Click here to read more about Estate Wines

The Kelly Fleming 2009 Estate Sauvignon Blanc has a few unique traits that made it stand out to me given the style I am used to having in Australia, whether it be from Australia or New Zealand. Firstly, it contains 2% Viognier, secondly it is blended from 50% French Oak treated and 50% stainless steel wine. It is also 14.5% alcohol which is pretty high for what would normally be a light, crisp, white wine.

It is light in colour and at times can appear almost clear but does have a pale straw/hay-like hue. I found the aroma to be fairly light, not at all like the the pungent Marlborough wines many would be more familiar with. There are hints of vanilla as a result of the French Oak and some noticeable fruity aromas like pear and some stone fruits.

Light fruit flavours on the palate included peach and pineapple in the after taste. The use of 50% oak is also noticeable in the flavour yet the wine is well balanced and enjoyable to drink.

Kelly Fleming Wines 2009 Sauvignon Blanc
Price$30 USD plus taxes from www.kellyflemingwines.com (Currently not available in Australia)
Region - Oakville, Napa Valley, California
Final Sip - I recommend anyone travelling to Napa Valley check out this beautiful new winery and try both the 09 Sauvignon Blanc and 07 Cabernet. If you needed any more evidence of the quality of the wines then it would be worth noting the restaurants that can boast having Fleming Wines on their list include The Beverly Hills Hotel, Michael Mina and The French Laundry!

Bondi Designer’s Striking Debut At Social Royalty In Paddington – 2Shae

July 12th, 2011

It is any emerging designer’s dream to have their label discovered by an exclusive boutique and to be chosen for the runway in an elite fashion event.

For Shae Fleming, owner of the brand 2Shae, both happened within a week.

The hard work involved in starting her own label were well worth the effort after being invited to be part of Melbourne Fashion Week as an interstate guest label days after her first collection debuted in the upmarket Paddington boutique, Social Royalty.

Shoppers on Oxford St, including myself, were treated to a surprise on Saturday 25th June, as a team of beautiful models strutted the street towards the boutique wearing 2Shae’s Australian-designed, sourced and manufactured styles. We all know how much I love Australian products!

More than 200 people attended the in-store launch and reveled in the delightful Torbreck wines, which gave that luxurious ‘champagne shopping’ experience, with a fashion parade.

The 2Shae crew included 11 models, a professional hair and makeup team of 5, a video crew, 4 photographers, as well as 3 drivers. “It was a huge team effort,” said Shae. “I wanted to make a scene and make a scene we did.”

Shoppers were forced front row as models strutted the Gould Street shopping strip in Bondi Beach in a guerrilla style parade before jumping into hot cars to take on Paddington’s Oxford Street.

After seeing first hand the success of the event, it came as no surprise to Dana Randall, manager of Social Royalty, who said:

“The designers we choose to stock are the most promising new talents around the world, and we even have labels that have graced New York and Paris Fashion Week, exclusive to Social Royalty in Australia. 2Shae is already proving a ‘must-have’ for our style savvy customers!”

Where do women go to stand out, be different and feel fabulous? Social Royalty Paddington

July 11th, 2011

Paddington went through tough times when Westfield Bondi Junction opened. Stores closed down and Paddington became a ghost town for retailers. But changes in the past few years has seen the fashion mecca of Sydney bounce back and flourish. This is thanks to fresh new blood pumping through the veins of Paddington – Social Royalty.

What makes Social Royalty so unique to Oxford Street are the brands which are exclusive to Social Royalty in Australia and amounts per style are limited. Women who shop there can be one of the very few to own a unique item.

Walking into the store, you’re greeted by the very sweet Dana, who knows the products inside out. The store feels glamourous, but with a warm feeling. The outfits are spaced out around the walls of the store, looking more like an exhibition – they are presented beautifully because they are beautiful.

Mid range to high end, including designers showing at New York and Paris Fashion Week. There are even the most gorgeous bikinis I have ever seen, definately stop here for this summers beach purchase!

The next big names in fashion and accessories can be found here, and you can be one of the first to have it! Watch out for: TRIAS, Carmelita Couture, Agua Bendita, Henry Hall Jeans and more, which are all instore for you to try on and take home!

Recently, Social Royalty was pleased to welcome home grown brand, 2Shae – a new brand by Bondi designer Shae Fleming.

All of the designers are hand-picked from around the world for their originality and talent for design.

Aussie women are cluey about fashion and in the age of The Sartorialist, most women want their own style rather than trawl through one chain store after another looking like everyone else in mass produced pieces. Boutique shopping is what it’s all about and in Paddington you can find all the best Australian designers stores as well as other fab boutiques.

Be sure to get there and walk out of there with a new outfit to slip into and turn heads.
