ECOYA Flagship Store Launch in Woollahra
August 1st, 2012
I’ve been to many events in Sydney, around Australia and in Europe. Most of these events are perfectly orchestrated, catered and entertained. But I haven’t been to an event for a very long time that was a total invasion of my senses.
Hearing. Seeing. Smelling. Tasting. Touching.
It was the very exclusive opening of Australian candle and bodycare company ECOYA’s Flagship Store on Thursday evening that had me worked up and noticing that every single little detail was covered.
ECOYA candles lined Queen Street, Woollahra and flowers by Grandiflora wrapped lamp posts and street signs and hung from the store’s awning creating an exquisite entrance into the flagship store.
Saskia Havekes of Grandiflora created a decadent arrival to the store, with flowers and lighting hanging from the perimeter of the stores awning – it was simply magical. The colours and textures she used complimented the environment perfectly.
As I arrived, I was cheerfully greeted and given an ECOYA fragrance themed buttonhole flower arrangement before walking into another world that was was music to my ears – literally. Hanna Oblikov and Eliza Morrison of classical music group ASTON entertained us with contemporary songs including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sneaky Sound System and Coldplay played on the Cello and Violin.
The ECOYA store/interior designer Megan Morton created a very organic and decadent space, with gorgeous 180 test tube chandeliers filled with seasonal flowers. The long wall of mirrors was also a stand out, which had Neale Whitaker of BELLE and many others admiring it. Treated with battery acid, it made a very interesting, yet slightly morbid and distressing look to the space – which all tied in just perfectly.
There were heaps of familiar faces, including Kirstie Clements (below), Donna Hay (above), Adam Ashley Cooper and gorgeous partner Pip Edwards (below), the effervescent Dr Nikki Goldstein, the distinct BELLE Editor Neale Whitaker (above) and lovely Stylist David Novak Piper (above).
We sipped on flutes of Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage 2002 Champagne, MOA and Steinlager Pure Beer and Santa Vittoria sparkling, but it was the catering that was exceptional. ‘Katering’ put together the excellent combination of canapes, including Salt and pepper barramundi with fresh lime, steamed Peking duck crepes with shallots and hoisin sauce, steamed chicken dumplings with shallot and ginger relish, peppered beef on a potato roesti with truffled aioli and rocket, smashed broad beans, pecorino and mint on charred bruschetta (below) and mini banoffee pies as something sweet to follow. The food was to die for and had every one in the room taking more then what event etiquette would allow.
I also had the pleasure of meeting the wife of ECOYA founder, Lisa Schweighoffer who was easily recognised in her bright yellow Sass & Bide pants! Just like the products ECOYA make, Lisa is a genuine and down to earth person and really in touch with the way people live and lead their lifestyles.
I can’t rave on about this event enough. Everything was perfect and everyone invited was approachable and great to chat to.
Well done to the team at ECOYA.

Amazing Online Shopping Experience With Avenue 24
April 17th, 2012
One of the best, if not the best websites I’ve ever seen is a popular fashion hub which I’ve recently come across, www.Avenue24.com.au.
This website was launched in 2011 and is a shopping platform which is interactive and cleverly animated, containing all of the fabulous elements of a boutique shopping experience in some of Sydney’s very best locations.
You can browse and purchase quality and luxury items from these boutiques, which make you feel like you are virtually there.
It needs to be seen and experienced to be believed. It really has so much attention to detail, plus awesome products and specials that everyone can be a part of.

A Unique And Distinct Cheese Made For Enjoying – Pecorino Romano
August 12th, 2010
Pecorino Romano is seriously one of my favourite cheeses. This hard Italian cheese is the only cheese I use for grating over pasta, chicken, salads etc. It’s made of sheep’s milk, fresh from sheep raised on the plains of Lazio and in Sardinia.
It’s got a strong distinctive smell, many people dislike the smell but it’s one of the few cheeses that has such an amazing, sharp and perfectly salted flavour. It’s flavour is complex and distinct, because of this it’s not everyone’s taste. But I recommend you try this as an alternative to boring Parmesan.
Try it at Jones The Grocer, see if you like it. I guarantee you will and it will create the perfect authentic taste to any dish you make.
I purchase my Pecorino Romano from Jones The Grocer, for $6.90/100g. You can get cheaper ones at normal supermarkets, but they aren’t as amazing and refined as this one.
Quick treat - Treat yourself with thick broken slices of Pecorino Romano, on french bread sticks with Jamon Serrano (cured ham) and tomato. Cut the bread stick open, cut a tomato in half and rub the bread (inside) with the tomato, squishing it into the bread, soaking it with the tomato and seeds. Throw away the left over tomato and rub bread with abit of Olive Oil, then layer with the Jamon and cheese. A typically Spanish tapas dish.

Blue Agava & Cacao In Oval Room Blue
May 13th, 2010
Last week I popped into the Jo Malone store in Woollahra to purchase a candle for my place as I do on occasion. It’s been a while since I was last there, but since then, they have a Limited Edition candle in collaboration with Farrow & Ball, makers of exquisite decorator paints and wallpapers.
To Jo Malone, this collaboration is important because it’s not only scent that fills the home from a Jo Malone candle, it’s also colour. The colour experts have created a range of coloured candles and scents, which define exclusivity and grandeur in a home. There is a colour to suit your décor, and a scent to suit your lifestyle.
My favourite is the sensual Blue Agava & Cacao in Oval Room Blue. The Oval Room Blue is typically a late 18th, early 19th century colour, which is a time of grandeur, eccentricity and luxury. When it come to the scent, it’s sweet lime and grapefruit, with the sap of blue agava, white lily and geranium. Mixed in with a raw cinnamon and the cacao, it all combines into this luxurious harmony.
Perfect for those nights in, reading a book with a glass of wine, it gives the room a thick presence, with warmth and depth. Grab your Missoni throw and relax!
Burning time is 34 hours – $110.
Available at Jo Malone – 110 Queen Street, Woollahra – (02) 9362 5555

The House of Boucheron Creates Perfection
March 18th, 2010
If you know me well, you will know I love my jewelry – especially rings. There’s nothing more luxurious then wearing an outstanding ring made of gold, rather large in size and striking. For men, just one signature ring, women can get away with more.
I have a Bulgari 5-band B-Zero white gold ring, which I am starting to get over now. So I am on the search for a new piece which is something special. As I’ve got older, I’ve thought I could start to drift into the yellow and white gold combination.
I can stop the search. I have found exactly what I want.
This is the Quatre Ring Diamonds made by the French jewelry makers, Boucheron. This ring is actually made of white, yellow rose and chocolate gold. I didn’t even know chocolate gold existed! The exquisite effects used on this ring make it one dramatic piece. It has an embossed rose gold, a white gold with a row of diamonds, a chocolate embossed diamond point and a yellow godron motif. Priced at $12,100 with diamonds. There is an option without diamonds, $5950.
If this is not one of the most beautiful men’s rings you have ever seen, I’m not too sure what is?

Marnie Skillings Purple Pleasure
March 18th, 2010
This Autumn/Winter I’ve noticed we are seeing lots of deep vibrant colours. Deep blues, purples and heavy patterns.
Marnie Skillings has taken this and created this number which really stood out to me. I look at it and think of Victoria Beckham crossed with a modernised version of The Jetsons.
The colour, the cut and the layers of the Felted Outdoorsman Jacket and Skirt sits tremendously on this particular model. She looks intense, yet dainty. She looks calm under the felted purple armoury, yet able to accentuate her waist at petite figure.
I love this outfit. It’s clean, fresh and so perfect for this season. It doesn’t need to be dressed up with anything except a pair of shoes. No jewelry, no make-up. Just confidence.
